Meet Ustadh Ashir Kirk
Ustadh Adrian “Ashir” Kirk is the founder and Executive Director of Measured Tones Institute of Quran. Born to a convert mother to Islam, he started studying Quran regularly at the age of 10. At 16 years old he dropped out of high school to pursue studies overseas. He studied in Damascus, Syria at Abu Nour Institute for 3 years plus 1 year of private studies, pursued his Quranic studies for another 2 years in Morocco after that and is now continuing his studies in the States. He received Ijaazah in reciting the entire Qurān with Tajwīd in both narrations of Hafs style of recitation of Shātibiyyha and Tayyiba-tun-Nashr. Ustadh Ashir was blessed to receive the Muhammad Ali scholarship to study at Bayan at Chicago Theological Seminary and pursue his Masters of Divinity with a concentration in Islamic Chaplaincy. He also owns 2 businesses, currently serves as the Outreach Coordinator for Muslim Prisoner Project, a non-profit organization that focuses on providing Eid gifts to the children of incarcerated Muslims.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur'an will be with the honorable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur'an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have two rewards." - [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Being a non-Arab speaker I was initially nervous because I just graduated learning the alphabet before joining the tajweed class. Br. Ashir from the door was very down to earth, and humble. He also had jokes as well, which made class fun and not so strict. Upon learning Reading Fatihah, Br. Ashir would let you say the full verse before he would assist you. I say assist because when he corrects you you don't feel like your doing anything wrong, but that he is guiding you to the right way of reciting. I intend to continue to learn from Br. Ashir and highly recommend his institution as a source of knowledge. May Allah protect and preserve him, his family and grant Baraka in his institution, ameen.
